Deaf Elders Around Rochester (D.E.A.R.) |
|
We are honored to provide support to elders and share our clubhouse to meet durning the day time.
A social group that meets at RRCD on a regular basis to provide daytime opportunities for senior citizens to socialize. D.E.A.R. meets twice a month, on the second and fourth Wednesdays, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM at the Deaf clubhouse.
D.E.A.R. was formed in 1974 when active deaf senior citizens found it difficult to go out in the evenings to socialize. They wanted to meet during the daytime, so D.E.A.R. was formed for this purpose.
At the clubhouse, the seniors may play cards or other games…in other words, they “socialize”! They bring their own lunches. Special events are occasionally planned, such as daytime trips and having speakers on topics of interest. Sometimes a catered lunch may be served at these special events.
Membership into D.E.A.R. is $5 per year. Admission to each D.E.A.R. event is $2 which covers unlimited coffee drinks. General meetings are held four times a year.
Officers currently serving are President Frank Kimmes, Vice-President Audrey Schell, Treasurer Marilyn Heffernan, and Secretary Paula Wollenhaupt.
